League History

Founded in the winter of 1989-1990 with the assistance of a financial grant from Consolidated Distributors of Auburn, Massachusetts, the Association was initially known as the Central Massachusetts Baseball Association.

Design for this summer league was to revive adult baseball in a region that had a rich and long history of such leagues but saw this lapse after World War Two. Central Massachusetts teams that had been playing in other leagues some distance away returned to form the nucleus for the new Association. Charter teams still active are Ronnie's of Worcester, the Lunenburg Phillies and the Clinton (then Hudson) 76ers. The remaining original teams included three other clubs from Worcester: City Club, theWarriors, and the Metros as well. The Auburn Rockets and Milford Nationals also competed in the original 8 team league. Over the seasons, Association membership has included teams mainly from the central region of Massachusetts such as Framingham, Hudson and Marlboro but at times some from further the more distant locales of Waltham, Chelmsford and Billerica.

In 1996 when Greenfield, Keene, New Hampshire and Brattleboro from Vermont became members, the Association changed its name to reflect its expanded geographic extant.

Over the years, the Association has numbered as many as eleven member teams and always more than seven. The recent success of this league in the Stan Musial state tournament has proven the league to be one of the best balanced and most talented leagues in New England. In 2004 the league voted to use wooden bats for the duration of the entire season. This decision promises to make the league even more competitive than in previous years and offers to further challenge and improve the college hitters during the summer season.
